Downtown Manhattans

The Donna Alford JaSSBand performed a two hour non-stop concert set this past Sunday night (3-06-07) at the Downtown Manhattans.  Her new four piece band consisting of bass, drums, keyboards and sax opened up the set with four hot insturmentals before introducing her on to the stage.  The flames got even hotter as she performed her rendition of popular neighborhood rnb standards, traditional and contemporary jazz selections.  Some of the artists she covered ranged in style from Maxwell and Jill Scott to Nancy Wilson and Ella Fitzgerald.  One particular highlight of the night was her tribute to Anita Baker.  While Donna effortlessly covered some of Baker's most popular tunes the band backed her flawlessly.  OriginalReginald
