Booker T. Washington's 80th Anniversary Party

The Booker T. Washington Center in Auburn, NY celebrated it's 80th anniversary on November 9, 2007 with the Soft Spoken Band.  It was held in the gymnasium at the BTW Center which was creatively piped & draped and beautifully decorated with round tables with white linen.  It was so nicely done that one could have very easily forgotten that it was the same space usually used for basketball and the likes.  The evening started out with a few performances by some of the center's paticipants who then afterwards served a very good soul food dinner to their couple of hundred guests.   Many local dignitares were in attendance too.   Included among them were Auburn's Mayor Tim Lattimore and New York State Senator Mike Nazzolio the latter of whom presented the BTW with a check for $25,000 to acquire a new van.
After awarding a few devoted townspeople with plaques for their continued support of the vision of the BTW center, the SSB performed.  People danced continually until the end of the night.  Overall this was an event to remember.  Cudos to the kids and to Exec. Director Monique Wright-William.
